Taking a Break - #11 - Original Watercolor Painting

My 11th weekly watercolor painting is titled Taking a Break. I like to paint working boats, because they have so many lines, poles, fittings, nets... they're just very interesting subjects. This painting shows a shrimp boat sitting by a dock between working trips. This sort of scene should be familiar to anyone living on the Gulf coast or the southern Atlantic coast. This 7.5" x 11" painting will look great matted and in a 12" x 16" or 14" x 18" frame.

California Incline - #10 - Original Watercolor Painting

Here is my weekly watercolor painting #10, California Incline. The California incline is a famous 100-year-old road in Santa Monica that runs along the Palisades Bluff and provides a link down to the beach area. In this view, looking north, one can see the wide beach, Santa Monica Bay, and the Santa Monica mountains in the distance. This subject was suggested to me by a friend living in Santa Monica, who said this is one of her favorite places there.

Poipu, Kauai - #9 - Original Watercolor Painting

Here is my weekly original watercolor painting #9, Poipu, Kauai. I've recently returned from Kauai, having spent a week at a beach resort on the south shore in Poipu. The beach was beautiful, and great for snorkeling. This is a view of the beach looking east, with one of the rental units at the left. The sand was gold, the water was blue-green... what a relaxing vacation! I plan to paint more Hawaiian scenes in the coming weeks.

Sound of Silence - #8

Here is weekly watercolor #8, Sound of Silence. This is one of a series of paintings inspired by a late summer 2009 boat ride I took on Lake Ouachita. I've tried to capture the grandeur and immensity of the lake, in comparison to a lone fisherman in a small boat.
